About the Event
The Wild Ones SOKY August member meeting will be held from 9–11 a.m. on Saturday, August 12. We’ll be starting at the Barren River Lake State Park (1149 State Park Rd, Lucas, KY 42156) with a tour of the monarch waystation, and concluding with a tour of member Barbara Brand’s property.
Barbara’s property is home to more than 100 native plant species! Her beautiful native landscaping is the highlight of her Youtube channel, Kentucky Native Garden Channel. In August, we can expect to see many blooming natives including wild hydrangea, Ohio spiderwort, Joe-Pye weed, great blue lobelia, and other favorites.

To limit the number of vehicles, this yard tour is limited to members only. Members are welcome to bring guests if carpooling. Upon arrival at Barren River Lake State Park, park in the front parking lot. Please note, the Monarch Waystation is not wheel-chair accessible from the parking lot. Attendees may take an elevator located in the lodge, but a few stairs are still required to reach the waystation. Barbara’s property is on a slope and may require navigating narrow stairs and uneven stepping stones.
